Some time ago I was invited to pop along to a fitness marathon that was raising money for St Barnabas Hospice. They had cared for a member of the QuickFit for women exercise class in her final stages of cancer and her friends wanted to celebrate the life of the friend they had lost and give back to those who cared for her.

I agreed to attend but my team went one step further and without telling me they signed me up to take part! So it was that I put on my gym kit and struggled to keep up with dozens and dozens of Hove and Portslade’s fittest women! I was thoroughly outclassed but also keeping me going was the memory of a very great friend of mine who was cared for by St Barnabas at the end of her life, so it really was worth every drop of sweat.
