On Friday I popped along to Little Ducklings Nursery in Hangleton. I know this group really well and I totally love it.

A year ago I visited just after they’d had a tough Ofsted inspection and I worked alongside the dedicated team to think a way forward. And now, a year later, the nursery is doing better than ever before, is proud to be back at ‘good’ after another Ofsted inspection, and are totally focussed on giving loads of toddlers the richest and loveliest nursery environment possible.

These kinds of changes don’t happen by accident, they happen when people make it happen with unimaginable amounts of hard work, grit and determination, and endless love for our community. Today I got to say ‘thank you’ to the team on behalf of us all.

But there’s a problem and I really need you to join me in helping them out. Because they’ve been so focussed on improvement and investment, Little Duckling is really strapped for cash. Right now it’s so bad they might even have to close if we don’t do something about it. The problem is a really short-term one. From September the new round of funding kicks in from government, but they have to survive until then.

They need £10,000 to get through to September and if we can all pull together and keep them going until then, this jewel of a nursery will be saved.

I’ve started by making a donation myself. Next up me and my team are working to contact local organisations that fund community groups and I’ll be ringing them up and doing everything I can do to secure the funding to plug the gap.

And lastly, can I also ask you to help also? Here’s a link to the fundraising page where you can make a donation:

You can see that the community is pulling out all the stops. 13 year old Euan Bradbrook, who used to go to Little Ducklings, is even shaving off his long hair to raise money…he’s at 62% of his fundraising target, let’s get him over the line!

I hate living in a world where early years providers don’t get the funding they need. The cuts to youth services, schools, and children’s centres is having a profound effect on our society. I fight this so hard in parliament and I just have to do everything I can locally too. I love the community in Hangleton around the Little Ducklings centre and I know how important this nursery is to them. Thanks for joining me in supporting them, I can tell you first hand having met the gorgeous and fun kids who go there, it really will make a difference to people’s lives.
