I’m dead-set on helping more young people get into politics. The barriers are immense, but I think the system could benefit immensely from the fresh energy and ideas of the next generation. Women in particular are put off politics, even when they are keen and interested. UK politics appears loud, combative, mean and personal – women in particular have told me over and over that at an age when they are dealing with all that leaving your teens involves the idea of contributing to a rowdy, aggressive system puts them off. So together with my amazing constituency staff we’ve created a scheme to introduce young women from Hove, Portslade and Hangleton to other women who are succeeding in politics and to another side of Parliament: one where we achieve amazing things and change the country for the better. We’re meeting women such as JessPhilips MP and council leader Bella Sankey and the UKs youngest female MP: Rosie Wrighting – one of just 10 Gen Z MPs. We then continue the program with experience in my office and working with the casework team, to see the side of politics where we help people get out of their difficult situations and help them solve their problems. If you live in the constituency and are under 26 years old send us an email!
