It’s a modern day nightmare of our times that so many people are struggling to feed their families. It’s even more painful for us as we approach Christmas, a time when families should be enjoying each other’s company not worrying about food, bills, and surviving another month.

FareShare is an organisation that collects unwanted food from retailers and shops and distributes it to local food banks. I spent the morning at Tesco’s in Church Road this weekend collecting food from generous customers and packing it ready for distribution.
Last year when I did this in Boundary Road I heard about a chap who donated 7 trolley loads of food. He did the same agin but I just missed this unsung hero – I really hope I get to meet him next year and say thank you in person (if you’re reading this, thank you, you’re amazing!).

I volunteered alongside local students Lola and Flo and trainee store manager Louis, and they were all brilliant fun to spend time with.

If you’d like to give some time too, you can use the link below and sign up. It’s great fun as you meet loads of people and for a brilliant cause. All the best, Peter.
