On my last day in parliament before the election I got the Justice Secretary to commit to review the law to protect people at risk of exploitation through ‘sex for rent’.

Well, now we’re on the other side of the election and we have a new Justice Secretary! I’ve already written to him asking for an urgent meeting. We’re fast approaching the time of year when students will be looking for accommodation and in towns and cities like ours some will be vulnerable to exploitation so I want action right away.

The Queen’s Speech is today, which means parliament will be back in session again. But I’ve not been waiting for this to happen before getting stuck into issues on your behalf. Brexit, lowering the voting age, and outlawing sex for rent are all issues I’ve got the ball rolling in addition to spending time at community events since the election. I’m just so pleased I have the chance to keep fighting for you and our community in these difficult times.

And yes, don’t worry…I have a meeting booked in tomorrow with Sir Nicholas Soams who I co-chiar the Southern Rail group of MP’s with. We will be setting the agenda for the coming weeks on how we bring yet more pressure to bear on government and the rail companies to get the improvements passengers desperately need (I’ve been reading your pained messages in recent days and I hear you!).

All the best and I hope you are all home from work early enough to enjoy the balmy evenings outside or by the beach, Peter
