Every Saturday morning at 9am hundreds and hundreds of people run together as a community in parks and open spaces. It’s called ‘Park Run’ and it’s free, fun, and just had it’s ninth birthday in Hove!

I was asked to hand out prizes to runners for sporting, personal, and community achievements, and then I set off the 500 – yes, 500 – runners for their morning run.

It’s amazing. I was really struck by the breadth of our community that was represented. There were many generations of people, from toddlers being pushed in buggies to one chap in his 80’s, all enjoying it together. I live for this kind of thing, it made me so happy just to see it.

The winner finished in blistering speed, but I was most struck by the amount of fun and laughter by others as they completed their circuits of the park.

I know what you’re thinking…no, I didn’t run! I have to admit that I love exercise but hate running! But, this looked so brilliant that I’ve quietly promised myself that I’ll give it a go one day.

Please check it out, there are several Park Runs in Brighton and Hove, including Hove Park and Hove Lawns, and it’s free: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/brighton/

Have a lovely and healthy weekend everyone! Yours, Peter
