I’ve spend an incredible evening at the Brighton Urban Arts Academy which is based in the Brighton and Hove Gymnasium in the Goldstone area of Hove.

Two years ago Luis Young set up the club and its the ultimate exercise, gymnastics, and dance destination for local youngsters. Every week young people get trained in gymnastics and dance and they also get to compete amongst themselves with their families roaring support from the sidelines, a DJ belting out music and an MC celebrating everyone’s achievements.

In my day we all lined up and when our names were called out or a whistle was blown we ran forward, climbed up a rope, climbed down a rope, and sat down quietly! Today, thanks to Luis, things are slightly different.

I popped along this evening and cheered on as youngsters competed and showed off all they have learned in heats for gymnastics, a ‘dance-off’, and the bars. It was just amazing and huge fun. I took this video of Tom who won the gymnastics freestyle and I think you’ll see why he won and just how talented our local youngsters are and just how brilliant the team are at training them.

If you have kids of your own, or are young yourself, click the link above and check it out. It’s brilliant, I’m really inspired by the energy and talent I’ve just spent time with. Hope you’ve had a great weekend too, Peter
