Brighton and Hove leads the way in many forms of equality – LGBT equality is one. But it’s still so important that we take time to celebrate our society’s progress and highlight areas we need to do better – that’s why we call it ‘Pride’ now and not ‘Gay Pride’.
I sat on the board of Brighton and Hove Pride for there years and learned a lot about the vital need we have here to support vulnerable people struggling to accept their sexual identity. I also learned how much effort goes into making our city’s biggest party happen every year.
My office in Church Rd has had a Pride makeover to join in the fun. I’ll also be in the parade on Saturday to highlight our achievements and to protest the parts of the world that still criminalise people based on sexuality. Give me a wave if you’re in the crowd!
All the best, Peter
