Peter welcomes the announcement today from Brighton & Hove Labour Party that they will consult about the introduction of a licensing scheme for all private-sector accommodation in the city.

Potentially a licensing sch…eme would enable the council to manage the private rented market, tackle poor conditions and drive up professionalism in the sector.

Peter said: “We have seen from schemes in other cities that they help local housing standards enforcement officers identify privately rented properties in their area, and therefore produce a far more targeted response to problems.

“For very little cost to landlords a scheme such as this can have a dramatic impact for tenants.”
