Great news, the formidable campaign to upgrade the recreation ground championed by the amazing ‘Mile Oak Mums’ has delivered another fantastic result.

By working hard as a community and alongside the council, funding has been secured to install an outdoor gym at the Rec. The landscaping that goes with it will also provide some wonderful improvements to the whole space which will make things better for the families that use it.

The campaign for a full upgrade continues at full speed though and we’re joined at the frontline by the most powerful force possible…children on a mission! Young students from Mile Oak Junior School and PACA have got together to start a letter-writing campaign to Pete West, the councillor who chairs the committee who decides on investment in our public spaces. The letters are determined, passionate, and just so heartbreaking sweet that you would have to be a dinosaur to ignore them!

Some of the students asked to meet me to talk about the campaign and to hand over some of their letters, here’s the Argus write-up.

It wasn’t long ago that the families who used the Rec felt ignored – not any more! It shows the power of community campaigning to make a difference. We’re another step along the way and we won’t stop until we get the upgrade these families – and future ones – deserve.

I love exercise so as soon as the new equipment is installed I’ll see you there for a workout! All the best, Peter

PS The ‘young boy’ in the headline below…that’s referring to me, right???
