A new government app (GOV.UK) designed to make government services more easily accessible have been released by the Department for Science, Technology and Innovation.

It will help UK citizens save time when navigating government services, putting everything from tax forms to travel advice in one easily accessible place.

The app includes a personalised experience, tailored by the user to deliver efficient and customised access to the government services most relevant to you. This comes in tandem with smart functions, which will provide intelligent suggestions when browsing, providing helpful links to information you need.

It also includes links to local services, such as councils, which are automatically added after inputting a postcode – putting your community at your fingertips.

The GOV.UK app is announced alongside GOV.UK Wallet, an alternative app that will carry digital versions of all government issued documents – starting with a Veteran’s Card this autumn and with Digital Driving Licenses to be brought out later this year.

One exciting feature rolling out soon will be an AI Government Chatbot which will answer nuanced questions, providing simple access to information which may be burried in the 700,000 government web pages.

Technology secretary Peter Kyle said:

Our new GOV.UK App shows for the first time how this government is overhauling taxpayer-funded services as we deliver on our Plan for Change. By putting public services in your pocket, we will do away with clunky paper forms and hours spent on hold, so you can immediately get the information you need and continue on with the rest of your day.

This release of the GOV.UK App is just the start. Soon, you will be able to use it to ask GOV.UK Chat any question you like about government services, and get a reliable answer immediately. You will then get personal notifications, reminding you when your MOT is due or whether you need to register to vote, and then you will be able to closely track your childcare credits just as you do your bank account.
