I want to say a big thank you to students at Blatchington Mill School for inviting me in to discuss climate change on the really important day of the Climate Change Strikes when young people across the world are uniting to make their voices heard.
People of all ages are feeling disempowered right now as these massive forces of Brexit and populism and climate change are raging around us, but young people often feel that powerlessness even more. After all they don’t have the vote but are very well aware that they will inherit these challenges we are destined to bequeath them. On that day they found their voice and the job of adults isn’t to sneer or condescend to them like some commentators have, but to open our hearts and listen to their concerns, answer their questions, and show that we care what they think.
I loved doing that at Blatchington Mill. Students and staff were just brilliant and I can’t wait to come back soon.
