I hate that we live in a world where food banks have become the norm. But sadly we do and until we can make work pay enough for everyone to get by, and those in need of support get what the need to move forward in life rather than struggle to get by, then we must support them. I certainly do.
Every year I head to Tesco in the run up to Christmas and collect for FareShare which distributes supplies to many of our local food banks.
I’m astonished at people’s generosity, how enthusiastic Tesco staff are, and how many people use the collection as a chance to talk to kids about food poverty.
So as well as being frustrating that we need them because it shines a light on the dark underbelly of 21st Century life, it also shows us at our best too.
Thank you to all the amazing volunteers I met and to everyone who’s given supplies this Christmas. If you want to find out more, pop over to this site:
