The snap election

I felt a flicker of anger when I heard about the snap election, because this is not about you or our country, it is about Theresa May and the Tory Party. You deserve better, our country deserves better.

They passed a law making elections every five years. Theresa May promised time and time again that the election would be in 2020, that there would be no election this year. Yet just as with national insurance, our NHS, and spending on schools, they have broken another promise to you.

This will be the third nationwide election in three years, and I'm sorry you are being put through it again so soon.
Brexit negotiations will start in June, and instead of spending this time preparing for this most important moment in our modern history, Theresa May has decided to dissolve parliament, sending ministers away from their jobs preparing departments for these crucial negotiations whilst all the time the EU works undeterred and undistracted every day to stick up for their own interests. It makes me weep with sorry and anger.

Always remember that this election is about you, not me or Theresa May. They will want to make this about Brexit, but you must decide what you want this election to be about so make your voice heard.

I write this on the train to Hove, where, with the exception of one day in parliament next week, I'll be for the next 50 days in order to meet and listen to as many of you as possible. As always I want to hear about your hopes and fears for the future and discuss my record in the short time I've had this job. And most importantly I will explain the many, many things I want to achieve on your behalf going forward.

Because today I was reselected as the Labour candidate by my party, and just as I have every day since that last happened on June 15 2013, I burst with the pride of such a privilege. And just as I've done every day since then, I'll fight to earn your trust and give you voice in these difficult times.

Unlike our prime minster I will not take my eye off the ball in this campaign. I will continue to be the best advocate for you that I possibly can. I will continue to meet and support the hundreds of people who turn to me for help. And I will continue to make our community's voice heard in the national debates about our nation's future.

And I will also campaign my heart out in the hope of earning the privilege of being your advocate in parliament for a little while longer.

If you like the way I've done things and want to help me out, it would mean the world to me if you'd put a little 'Peter Kyle' poster in your window. If you'd like one, please message me with your address and I'll get it to you without delay. And if you're lucky enough to have a garden, well you can go for gold and have an amazing 'Peter Kyle' board which I know will be the envy of your neighbours!

Thank you so much for choosing to stick with me this on this journey, I can't wait to get out into our communities and give you the positive, passionate, and energetic campaign that you deserve.
