Protecting Our Fire Service

A proposal has been put forward to reduce the number of fire engines in Brighton, Hove and Peacehaven from five to four.
The loss of a fire engine will lead to slower response times, less personnel, less equi...pment and fewer home and school fire safety visits. In short it will put people in danger.
In a busy and congested city like ours it can take a long time to travel across town to Portslade, Hangleton or Wish, for example, especially when there's a festival or major event being held. For these reasons I am supporting the Fire Brigades Union in their call to protect the number of fire engines here.

As you know I think carefully before opposing cuts because every sector must be extremely mindful of saving resources whilst our economy is recovering from the global recession. However this must not be achieved by putting residents lives on the line.
As you can see I've already been out on street stalls to talk about this key issue, and this weekend I'll be in Hangleton alerting residents to the potential dangers of loosing a fire engine.

Please join with me in signing this petition. I hope Mike Weatherley will soon break his silence on this issue and join us in this fight before the damage is done.
All the best, Peter
