Help Me to Deliver Flexible Rail Tickets

I promised I would meet the rail minister as soon as I could after Christmas. As you know, I questioned her in the House in December on 'flexible season tickets' and she offered to meet with me...by the time I left the chamber the meeting was booked (my team don't hang around!).

Flexible season tickets would mean part time commuters would benefit from the savings traditional commuters get at the moment (I know saying 'savings' when it's so expensive hurts).

The minister acknowledged the popularity of the trial that was conducted, but could not give me a date when it would be rolled out in Brighton and Hove or other Southern stations.

I put to her that there was a clear economic case because our economy in Brighton and Hove is dominated by micro-businesses and self employed people. Therefore flexible season tickets is essential to unlocking further productivity in our city's economy. The minister was very taken with this argument and asked me for more details.

So I'm collecting examples and case studies from you for how these tickets will positively contribute to your job, business, or economic activity. I'll turn this into a report and present it to government. This will be something tangible that I can then put pressure on the minister, the department, and government as a whole.

Please help me by sharing your examples of how flexible season tickets would help you - I promise it will really help me deliver this for you. You can post here or email me on Peter.Kyle.MP@parliament.uk. Thanks you!

I also expressed in no uncertain terms the anger, frustration, and raw emotion that you felt in the run-up to Christmas. You have had enough of this. I shared some examples, stories, and comments from this page and believe me it made uncomfortable listening for the minister. I'm sorry that things won't change overnight, but I am making your voice heard as loudly as I possible can.

My meeting comes a week before the regional 'rail summit' which I'll also be attending. You'll be hearing a lot more, and I'll keep you posted about my report. In the meantime, wrap up warm out there! All the best, Peter
