Rishi Sunak’s decision not to represent us at COP27 and then ban the King from attending is a terrible mistake.

The UN report that came yesterday that stated there was “no credible pathway to 1.5C” has been put in place by international governments, despite the commitments made at the 2015 Paris Conference was shocking and should have shocked the government into action but, instead, it shocked them into withdrawing.

We’re currently the president of COP. We should be handing over to the next president with energy, policies and ideas. Instead, our top representatives aren’t even showing up at all.

And this is a government that says it’s for ‘global Britain’. What a joke that has become. If we refuse our place at the top table for climate change why would global partners turn to Britain for leadership on anything else?

Just to remind you that Labour will have a £28bn Green Prosperity Fund; reach 100% clean electricity by 2030; establish Great British Energy to turbocharge renewables; and we’ll insulate two million homes in the next year and double onshore and offshore wind generation.

The only thing that’s stopping us make this happen is the general election our country needs so badly!

I’ve been out on the airwaves today talking about climate change, the political crisis in Northern Ireland and the economy.

It’s quite something doing ten interviews back to back as each interviewer has a different style and hits you with different questions, but I wouldn’t miss the chance to talk about these issues for anything!

Yours, Peter
