The newly set-up AI Energy Council has held its first round of talks in Whitehall.

The AI Energy Council was formed as a part of Labour’s AI opportunity Action Plan, its recommendations set to shape both national AI strategy and the UK’s energy landscape.

The focus of the meeting was on the intersection between AI and clean energy. The council has agreed on five priorities for the council to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into delivering the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan.

The meeting was chaired by Secretary of State for Science, Innovation, and Technology Peter Kyle and Secretary of State for Energy, Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband. They were joined by energy industry representatives from firms such as EDF, Ofgem and National Grid and tech giants such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft sharing expert insights.

Secretary of State Peter Kyle has said: “The work of the AI Energy Council will ensure we aren’t just powering our AI needs to deliver new waves of opportunity in all parts of the country, but can do so in a way which is responsible and sustainable,

Attendees have committed to meet quarterly, to develop ideas on how the UK can drive forward with its AI and power goals.
